I could really use your advice. A little background: my best friend is formerly fat and I am currently fat. Recently, my best friend has lost a ton of weight very quickly. He is now ~thin~. He sometimes (very unknowingly, mind you) makes comments about fat people and how glad he is that he's not fat anymore. I've asked him a million times in a million different ways to be more cautious and respectful, but it slips out from time to time. Do you think there's a way I can make him stop for good?

I am always up for an ultimatum. Boundaries that make you feel safe and respected are necessary and any good friend would hear you out and understand you’re doin this because you want them in your lives still, you just don’t want it at your expense.
Everyone’s relationship with their bodies is different and it’s important we respect ALL stories. Lose weight, gain weight, don’t do either, I don’t really give a fuck. But make sure the shit that comes out of your mouth when you’re around me doesn’t other me or elevate you. And you’ve already asked for what you need!
I want to say that it is a lot to carry when you were fat but, for whatever reason, you’re not anymore. I’m sure he’s feeling A LOT of feelings.
But he needs to find someone else to share that with if it makes you feel unsafe. Like that might seem unfair at face value but fat bodies are so demonized, othered and constantly made abject…. Thin bodies just exist in a different way.

Also you’re just allowed to ask for what you need
